National Louis University

Research Fellow

Carmen Gioiosa, EdD received her doctorate in Education Policy, Organization and Leadership from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and explored the intersectionality between leadership theories and practices with access and equity for underserved students. Her qualitative case study sought to identify and describe the practices of two high school principals who built a culture in their high schools focused on college and career readiness for all students, but in particular students from historically underserved backgrounds.

Her research interests include issues around secondary school leadership practices and structures, college and career readiness, career and technical education, school improvement, and the role cultural and social capital plays in closing the opportunity gap. Prior to her doctoral studies, Carmen was a high school teacher and education leader for Chicago Public Schools.
